Hello there! My name is David, and I am a New York-based filmmaker and writer/director whose work centers on character-driven storytelling and explorations of the human condition. Known for a thoughtful and heartfelt approach, a musical sensitivity to pacing and rhythm, and a gift for capturing emotional subtext, my work often feels like they tap in to the human soul. I draw great inspiration from everyday observations and my curiosities about humanity’s idiosyncrasies.

At the center of my Chinese name is ‘友’, which translates to ‘friend’ or ‘friendly’. I’d like to think I’ve been genuinely living up to that with everyone I work with and otherwise, despite my introverted tendencies. I was basically raised by movies and television, and I hold a Master of Fine Arts in Writing and Directing cinema from the Rochester Institute of Technology, so if your language is movie references, I’m with you.

Throughout my time as a visual storyteller (gosh, 15 years or so now), the type of projects that I produce range from documentary-style to scripted narrative. You’ll find me equipped with clever creative intuition and a calm presence throughout the process. There’s been a lot of talk about super powers, lately—mine is emotionally connecting people.
